ABOUT THE FAMILY
Sr. Felipe is originally from Apatzingán, Sinaloa in southern Mexico, but has lived in Puerto Peñasco for many years. He worked for most of his life as a fisherman, but two years ago he became wheel chair ridden due to wear on his neck and spine. Sr. Felipe has been a widower for four years and has three grown sons. He is currently living with his youngest son, Natanael. Natanael and Karla have been married for 14 years and have three young children. Previously, Natanael was a Marine, but he had to leave that career as he was going to be sent to Veracruz, but he was needed at home to help care for his mom in her final stage of life. He currently works as a mason, and he and Karla are able to care for his father, Sr. Felipe. The family is currently living on the property that Sr. Felipe and his wife bought years ago. The property is a family heritage, but the two small room they have been able to construct for their living space are in very poor condition. They offer little security and less protection from the elements. A house from 1MISSION would provide Sr. Felipe with a comfortable space to live, a home where his children can care for him and live securely as well. It would give him the peace of mind to know that his children will have a secure future with the heritage of a home and land of their own. HOW THIS FAMILY EARNED THEIR HOUSE
Our Earning by Learning initiative gives families the opportunity to build at their own capacity while at the same time, furthering sustainable development in their own community. Families can participate in classes centered on home budgeting, gardening, sewing, basic education and much more. Families also become connected with their communities by participating in projects such as building each other’s homes, cleaning their neighborhoods, and serving in local schools and churches. This sustainable approach results in community development that multiplies from neighbor to neighbor. By participating in their community, families not only work together, but they feel the support of their neighbors and develop relationships of trust and shared burdens.
100% of donations from this campaign will go to 1MISSION's projects and programs in the field.
