ABOUT THE FAMILY
The Gonzales Bejarano family recently moved from Sierra de Chihuahua to Puerto Peñasco four months ago. Andres and Maria have been together for 22 years and have seven children. The oldest three are working to help support the family. The younger children have not been able to register for school because they do not have the proper identification papers. Andres has work as a security guard and their wish is to be able to put down roots in Peñasco and create a future here. The stability will allow them to pursue acquiring the documents that would allow their children to continue their schooling. The family has begun paying their land lot and are currently living with Maria’s uncle. Andres’ wages barely meet their rent, land lot payments and basic needs for the family, leaving them no budget to be able to build a home on their own. A house from 1MISSION would enable this family to live independently, and free up what they need to pay for rent, allowing them to focus on their daily needs and on working towards a more secure future. HOW THIS FAMILY EARNED THEIR HOUSE
Our Earning by Learning initiative gives families the opportunity to build at their own capacity while at the same time, furthering sustainable development in their own community. Families can participate in classes centered on home budgeting, gardening, sewing, basic education and much more. Families also become connected with their communities by participating in projects such as building each other’s homes, cleaning their neighborhoods, and serving in local schools and churches. This sustainable approach results in community development that multiplies from neighbor to neighbor. By participating in their community, families not only work together, but they feel the support of their neighbors and develop relationships of trust and shared burdens.
100% of donations from this campaign will go to 1MISSION's projects and programs in the field.
