ABOUT THE FAMILY
Ildefonso and Patricia are both originally from San Luis Rio Colorado; they have lived in Puerto Peñasco for the past 12 years. Idelfonso has serious health issues, including heart problems, emphysema and diabetes. He is under medical treatment but is unable to work. Not all of his medication is covered by insurance, and it is a challenge for him to manage to be able to purchase them on his own. Patricia babysits her grandchildren, which is currently their only form of income. Their daughter helps to support them, and helps with the medical expenses when she is able to. They have been together for 34 years and have four grown children who have families of their own. Idelfonso and Patricia have been paying on their land lot, but are without the means to build anything on their own. They currently are paying to rent a room, but are excited about the prospect of a home of their own and being free from the burden of their rent payment. A house from 1MISSION would give them a comfortable home where they can live securely and focus their limited resources on meeting their daily and medical needs. HOW THIS FAMILY EARNED THEIR HOUSE
Our Earning by Learning initiative gives families the opportunity to build at their own capacity while at the same time, furthering sustainable development in their own community. Families can participate in classes centered on home budgeting, gardening, sewing, basic education and much more. Families also become connected with their communities by participating in projects such as building each other’s homes, cleaning their neighborhoods, and serving in local schools and churches. This sustainable approach results in community development that multiplies from neighbor to neighbor. By participating in their community, families not only work together, but they feel the support of their neighbors and develop relationships of trust and shared burdens.
100% of donations from this campaign will go to 1MISSION's projects and programs in the field.
